The Christmas season is here! Are you bogged down with the pressures of the season to do things right, attend all the social engagements, and buy all the right gifts? The calendar gets crammed. There never seems to be enough hours in the day. While you cannot slow time down, you can positively influence the movement of your soul as it responds to the movement of time as you work to truly love others in the world around us.
For me, Christmas is about redemption. It's about the restructuring, or the restoration, of all which has been lost, surrendered and wounded. It's about reframing the idea that God himself would come in the form of humanity and fix our broken ideas about God and about the Universe. It’s about the idea He would come to a world where a view of love was just basically transactional. Christ came to expose our short-sighted views of relationships and transactional connections with Divinity and with God to free us from the plaguing question, “What's in it for me?” This question seems to drive most of the world around us. If we know our brokenness will be restored in perfect love than we can offer restoration to others. I'm so encouraged Christmas represents the possibilities and the dreams God had in mind when He imagined our release from the transactional ideas of how the universe works.
To be good to others, you must first Give yourself mercy. But what does this mean? If you want to grow, improve, and lead more effectively than you have to give yourself permission to let go of the transactional ideas of how the universe works. Let go of those thoughts of “If I perform well...” or “If I do enough of this…” as ideas of what defines success in life and love. So, you can simply do things with all your heart. So, give yourself some room...know God has given you space on this side of eternity to be able to live with grace and measure success in other terms. If you give yourself the gift of mercy first, then, and only then, will you be available and free to offer others the gifts of kindness, joy, and room to recover from the battles happening in their lives. You can be a beacon of life and hope to others. You truly can become a personal representation of joy to others. And what could be better than that?
This holiday season give yourself some mercy. Be kind to yourself and others in a way which is satisfying to your heart!
As always, we’re here to help you get to a:
