Are you bringing all of yourself to work? If not, you are not alone. There is a problem with work, but it can be fixed.
For many people, work can be a component of what makes them happy, but it cannot be the only thing. If anyone believes that to be true, they are dooming themselves. There are many elements that contribute to the happiness of an individual, and people take their emotions into the office. So, if there are problems going on outside of work, those issues will prevent an employee from giving their best effort at their job.
For employees, their lives and relationships at home are important. Any problems they are experiencing will ultimately trickle into other areas of their lives, including work. So, these relationships must be functioning well in order people to be their most productive at work. For example, someone who is experiencing issues with their marriage, children, or possibly with their emotional health, cannot go to work and expect to do well. So, the focus for individuals must be on putting themselves first.
Laurie Ruettimann says, similar to corporations that succeed, workers must put themselves first in order to succeed. “Ultimately, workers are capitalists too, and one of the things we note from capitalism is that the organizations that put themselves first and feel entitled to be rested, to be refreshed, to be winners - those are the actual organizations that win.” So, ultimately workers must reconfigure how they view their work and put themselves and their home lives first. They need to love themselves.
When workers focus on their own well-being, they may realize they are in the wrong job and take the responsibility to get into a good spot that benefits them and their role as an employee, producing at the highest level for the office.
It is important for employees to fix their lives at home so they can take their whole selves to the office and be able to make necessary changes. The bottom line is for individuals to keep moving forward and be the change they want to see in both their personal and professional lives. Fix work, not only for yourself, but for those around you as well!
