In this As One podcast series, we talk about why organizational alignment matters.

If the organization or team you lead is not aligned around critical issues, it’s going to be a rough ride.

In this episode, we look at the value of creating agreement and alignment around four key areas.

Team Alignment #1: Know Your Why

To engage your team at an optimal level, the team needs to agree around why you are doing what you are doing. Your ‘why’ not only creates a compelling vision, it attracts your employees’ engagement.

Team Alignment #2Clarify Your Values

Want minimum team drama? You must align around expected behaviors. When everyone agrees to abide by clear, stated values, the opportunity for dysfunction and drama drops significantly.

Team Alignment #3Define What You’re Really Doing

"What are we doing” should be the easiest question to answer, but you might be surprised. In the absence of clarity, team members will take on tasks and responsibilities that don’t profitably contribute to the team’s vision or mission.

Team Alignment #4: Reduce Your Silos

Your organization needs to be clear on, and aligned around, its current greatest challenge. You need the cohesion that occurs when you face challenges as one. Without agreement here, silos emerge, and every team member will focus effort on the issue most critical to their area of responsibility.

Without Alignment, Creativity and Innovation Suffer

Creativity and innovation are two of the first liabilities you’ll suffer when your team isn’t functioning in unity. Alignment provides boundaries and clarity that free team members to know what they need to pursue and how much permission and flexibility they have in their process.
