Are you a leader or a member of a human resources team, looking for a new way to communicate with your team or other employees? Have you considered enterprise podcasting? This medium is continuing to grow, as more and more people engage with podcasts. As a member of a corporation, podcasting can be an efficient way to save time and money!
Danny Ozment is a podcast producer, and in his experience, people love podcasts. They are starving for new information and they love hearing stories. In podcasts, people can share their experiences and form a bond with their audience. Eventually, the host becomes recognized not only as a friend but also as an authority on a subject.
It seems natural that podcasting would be an option within corporations. Many are turning to podcasts as an internal vehicle to distribute information from leaders or human resources teams, to employees and to develop trust within the organization. Danny refers to this as enterprise podcasting, and he sees it as a valuable way to communicate. He says, “It allows people to communicate internally, things like communication from leaders, team meeting information, HR and company announcements, organizational changes, employee orientation and onboarding, corporate earnings calls...things that might contain sensitive information.” People often don’t have time for meetings or memos, so podcasts can be an efficient alternative. Podcasts can be consumed in a variety of locations, at different times, and on different speeds. This offers flexibility to maximize employee time.
Podcasts also provide an authentic means of communication for a leader to reach employees. There are huge corporations that have workers in various areas, for example, that would not have an effective way to gather workers together for a meeting in one central location. It would just be too difficult and costly to coordinate. Podcasting provides a way to get the information to everyone efficiently. Danny says, “Most importantly, it gives the leader a chance to have the freedom to connect authentically, one-on-one, being vulnerable. They’re recording and a lot of time alone in a room so they don’t have to be ‘on’ like they are in front of a crowd or in a meeting.” He also says it is a way to have some structure and control as opposed to how some meetings can drag on. This is an effective way to reach everyone. It can even help employees within the company feel as though they have a relationship with the CEO.
If you are looking for a vehicle to move information through the ranks of your company in an authentic and efficient way, podcasting could be an option. It can be used to drive vision and values through every level of your organization. Everyone has a story to tell...and people love to listen to them!
